PUTRAJAYA, 29 February 2024 - The Integrity, Governance and Anti-Corruption (AIGA) Awards 2023 organized by The Malaysian Institute of Integrity (IIM) was officiated today by YB Senator Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan, Finance Minister II, representing the YAB Dato' Sri Haji Fadillah Haji Yusof, Deputy Prime Minister. The ceremony was also attended by YBhg. Tan Sri Dato' Seri Mohd Zuki Ali, YBhg. Tan Sri Dato' Seri Mohd Zuki Ali, Chief Secretary to the Government; YBhg. Datuk Seri Wan Ahmad Dahlan Abdul Aziz, Director General of Public Service; YBhg. Datuk Awang Alik Jeman, Senior Deputy Secretary General (TKSUK), Prime Minister's Department (JPM) and YBhg. Datuk Nor Yahati Awang, President & Chief Executive Officer, Malaysian Institute of Integrity (IIM).


AIGA is an award developed by IIM to recognize and appreciate the public and private sector organizations that have demonstrated their commitments and efforts to inculcate integrity and good governance. It is a benchmark that allows organizations to measure the effectiveness of initiatives implemented to enhance integrity in their organizations. This internal management system is focused on good governance, to curb corruption in the organization.


The assessment is based on international standard criteria, including MS: ISO 37001 Anti-Bribery Management System (ABMS) and MS: ISO 9001 Quality Management System. The panel of assessors consists of experts from the public sector, corporate and the non-governmental organizations (NGOs) who are in the fields of quality audit, integrity, governance, and anti-corruption.


"IIM has received a total of 154 entries, comprising 95 public and 59 private agencies from organizations across the country. Of these, only 92 organizations were selected to receive the AIGA Award 2023, which includes 46 Gold Awards, 33 Silver Awards, and 48 Bronze Awards. The increased participation from the previous AIGA reflects the commitment of many parties to the importance of practicing a culture of integrity and best governance in the organization," said Datuk Nor Yahati, President & Chief Executive Officer of IIM.


Five (5) recipients of the Highest Gold Award were selected to compete in the Platinum category, namely the Sarawak Economic Development Corporation; TM Technology Services Sdn Bhd; Penang State Secretary's Office; Sime Darby Plantation Berhad; and EDOTCO Group Sdn Bhd. The evaluation for the Platinum category was carried out by the Special Evaluation Panel comprising YBhg. Tan Sri Dato' Sri Haji Dr. Syed Zainal Abidin Syed Mohamed Tahir; YBhg. Tan Sri Zarinah Anwar; YBhg. Tan Sri Abdul Wahid Omar; and YBhg. Tan Sri Noorul Ainur Mohd Nur.


Sime Darby Plantation Berhad has been awarded the Platinum AIGA Award 2023 throughout the Integrity Day program initiative at 27 locations spanning across its global operations. These programs have directly inculcate and educate its employees about the culture of integrity at Sime Darby Plantation. Along with that, the company also has a whistleblowing channel called Workers' Voice ('Suara Kami') available in 7 languages and a comprehensive Whistleblowing Dashboard and Reporting system. Sime Darby Plantation is also highly active enhancing the understanding of employees with short videos and holding competitions on the Code of Business Conduct.


"AIGA 2023 evaluation criteria have been strengthened by adding aspects such as Occupational safety and health (OSH); Environmental, social, and governance (ESG); Information Security Management System (ISMS); and Customer/Client Satisfaction. IIM also always welcomes every feedback and suggestions received, such as the implementation of AIGA on a biennial basis," added Datuk Nor Yahati.


This year in AIGA, IIM in collaboration with the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), held a Special Award: The Best Integrity of Occupational Safety and Health (OSH), recognizes organizations that express elements of integrity culture as well as practice in occupational safety and health control within the organization. IIM also presents the Special Appreciation of Integrity Award to the Sarawak Government as a recognition for its commitment to inculcate integrity as a whole and continuously involving the public sector, society leadership and community.


AIGA proves the commitment of both the public and private sectors in Malaysia, especially the organizations participating in AIGA 2023, which have shown their commitment to foster and practice the highest standards for the implementation of integrity, governance, and anti- corruption initiatives. This award also has shown significant importance in the country's journey towards excellence in integrity and governance, in line with the concept of Malaysia Madani.
